Safety on the Internet

Internet safety, or online safety, is the knowledge of maximizing the user's personal safety and security risks to private information and property associated with using the internet, and the self-protection from computer crime in general.

Security Tips

  • Use trusted sources when
    • Downloading apps
    • Opening emails
    • Clicks on links
  • Ensure Firewall is turned on
  • Browse websites using the HTTPS prefix
  • Ensure email is encrypted from desktop clients
  • Use two-factor authentication

Public Computers

  • Avoid financial tasks
  • Use strong and unique passwords, anticipate periodic password changes

Public WiFi

  • Connect at reputable locations with confirmed, trusted networks (ask an employee)
  • Turn off 
    • Share settings
      • Printer sharing
      • Network discovery
      • Public folder settings
    • and 'Forget' the network for mobile devices
